PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

PRP Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelets are small cells in our blood that help to control bleeding and plasma means white blood cells. It is the largest component of our blood. Blood plasma is a light yellow liquid. Plasma, along with water, carries salts and enzymes to various parts of the body. In other words, the job of plasma is to transport nutrients, hormones and proteins to various parts of the body. Cells also deposit their waste products in the plasma. In this way, plasma removes this waste from the body. PRP is a safe and effective treatment option for hair loss, as the individual’s own plasma is used in the procedure.  Plasma is an excellent support for quick healing properties and it builds up natural hair growth without any chance of allergy, adverse effect or rejection. PRP is used in combination with hair transplant surgery to reduce swelling and pain and to increase hair density. PRP (Platelet-Rich-Plasma) therapy for hair loss is a three-step medical treatment in which a patient’s blood is drawn, processed, and then injected into the scalp. With this process, plasma helps to increase blood supply to the hair follicle and increase the thickness of the hair shaft. It is always advisable to get mesotherapy done before the PRP procedure.

PRP Procedure

  • To prepare the platelet-rich plasma, 30-100 ml of the patient’s blood is taken out.
  • The blood is then placed in a centrifuge which spins the sample in order to separate the platelets from the rest of the red and white blood cells and other components.
  • 3-10 ml of concentrated, platelet-rich plasma containing three to five times the number of platelets normally found in the bloodstream is then extracted from the sample.
  • The platelets are then mixed with calcium chloride, thrombin and occasionally collagen, in order to activate them, meaning that the many different growth factors – naturally occurring substances contained in the PRP, which can stimulate cell growth, healing and can rejuvenate skin from the inside, are released.
